Old West Firearms
The Billy the Kid Museum’s firearms collection has a wide variety of Old West firearms including lever-action rifles, revolvers, shotguns, and more. Highlights include a 1851 Navy Colt black powder revolver, an engraved and decorated Third Model Dragoon, and a case containing many revolving pistols and rifles from the period. In fact the Museum has something for everyone.
The environment and atmosphere within the museum feels very unhurried for such an important collection. The staff are well-informed and have laid out the collection in a simple way that has no distractions from digital displays. The exhibit will satisfy both the enthusiast and the casual visitor. Best of all, visiting the museum is completely free!
Old West Artifacts and Memorabilia
The Old West may be gone forever, but its romance and ability to capture the imagination will never fade. Over the years the Museum has accumulated a respectable amount of quality Western collectibles including artifacts of the cowboys, vaqueros, and pioneers of the Old West.
That atmosphere can still be felt in Hico, and never more so than when the Museum hosts its annual Billy the Kid Book Festival, next slated for October 5-6, 2021. So come and take a look at some of the trappings of an era that is unique in all the history of the world.
WWII Uniforms and Memorabilia
We have dozens of uniforms from WWII, plus a few from the Civil War, as well as cases displaying weapons, radios, meal rations, photos, equipment and other military related items either found by the museum’s owners or donated. We also have many US and foreign medals, ribbons, badges and insignia displayed on uniforms and in display cases.
The Museum may be small, but it’s chock full of unique artifacts that are displayed openly and clearly labeled. Someone is always available to answer questions or help. The displays are constantly evolving, some of the photos on our website may not reflect the current display. To see what's new, come on down, stop by and see!
